Ken began his music training at the age of 9 years old. He started with keyboards then began lessons on clarinet and the drum kit for 7years. He is an avid listener to most music genres but his favorite genre is world or ethnic music. Twenty-five years ago, he heard Native American style flute and was captivated enough to begin playing the instrument. He has also led many drum circles, some include; Ginger Blossoms, Pagan Pride events, Earth Day celebrations, fire walks and co-facilitated a monthly drum circle on the last Friday of every month at Evolve in Crystal Lake. Ken is currently recording his own improvisational songs using wood flutes, various types of drums, didgeridoo, singing bowls, and other natural instruments and natural sounds. His music is improvisational playing from the heart. He uses only acoustic instruments for his very own style of rejuvenating, meditational healing music. He also makes and sells Native American style wood flutes and other nature inspired music instruments. Ken strongly supports and understands the ideas and concepts of the benefits of music/sound therapy and communal drumming. March 8 - Kintsugi Pottery: Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery, the word literally translates to "gold seams". Kintsugi is based on the idea that embracing flaws and imperfections can make a piece of art stronger and more beautiful. The technique originated from the aesthetic of wabi sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection. Breakage and repair is part of the history of an object and not seen as something that needs to be disguised. In this class you will learn how to repair a broken piece of pottery and then decorate the seam in gold.
