Buddhist Global Relief (BGR) is an community of Buddhists and friends of Buddhism who seek to give concrete expression to the Buddha’s great compassion for those in need. BGR is a charitable organization created in response to a challenge by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi to American Buddhists. Bhikkhu Bodhi, an American Buddhist monk and scholar who has translated much of the Buddhist canon into English, said:
The special challenge facing Buddhism in our age is to stand up as an advocate for justice in the world, a voice of conscience for those victims of social, economic, and political injustice who cannot stand up and speak for themselves. This, in my view, is a deeply moral challenge marking a watershed in the modern expression of Buddhism.
Please visit the BGR web site to learn more about BGR and its projects. BGR is holding a fund raising walk on the Chicago Lakefront Trail on Saturday, October 13.
